Under the 27-month continual aggressions of ?#Bashar? al-?#Assad?’s forces against the civilians in ?#Syria?, the country’s economy has collapsed, stores are closed and food is scarce.
Recently I have heard a rumor that Islamic scholars in besieged ?#Homs? have made a fatwa (a legal judgement) that it is halal (permissible according to Islamic law) to eat cat meat. Such an issue – if true – can be controversial among those who could not follow the news of the Syrian Revolution.
Assad has been besieging the city of #Homs since May 2011. Since the the city has become a blighted city, where authorities regularly block deliveries of medicine, food and fuel to the inhabitants of certain districts.
On July 12, 2013, Reuters reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said thousands of Syrian lives were at risk in the old city of Homs, where Assad’s forces have been pushing a heavy offensive with air and artillery strikes to try to retake rebel areas.
In addition to crimes against humanity, Assad’s forces have been damaging historic sites such as one the most important preserved medieval castles in the world i.e. the Crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers, and the Khalid ibn al-Walid Mosque (1265).
Assad’s forces have killed more than 100,000 civilians so far. If all of the above do not count, I call on the ‘civilized’ international community, which has been unable to stop Assad’s massacres in syria, to at least save the lives of cats in my country. I bet they do not want to.
